Instructions for IMU Lateral Entry Scheme IMU-CET (2022) Registration/ Admissions
- Please go through the following instructions carefully and go through FAQs before applying. For FAQs please CLICK HERE.
- Lateral Entry candidates are to read the link INSTRUCTIONS FOR LATERAL ENTRY CANDIDATES for registering. They will be eligible only for Lateral Entry to B.Tech(M.E)"
- All candidates desirous of doing B.Tech-Lateral Entry in any other DGS approved MTIs other than IMU campuses are also required to compulsorily take IMU-CET & secure IMU-CET rank
- The candidate shall be solely responsible for any loss or hardship caused to him due to his non-reading or non-adherence to these instructions.
- The candidate is requested to visit IMU's website (https://www.imu.edu.in) periodically to keep track of new announcements and changes if any.
- The lateral entry scheme is only applicable for candidates for following categories: -
- 1st year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D.G. Shipping (This will not be applicable to MERI).
- 1st year from the Engineering College in other streams like Mechanical or Electrical approved by AICTE with minimum 60% average marks.
- 3-years Engineering Diploma in Marine/ Mechanical / Electrical / Electrical & Electronics, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course.
- 4 years Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course.
- 3 years Diploma Course in the following categories, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course.
a) Mechanical Engineering Stream: Automobile /Machine Tools and Maintenance /Plant Engineering / Production Technology /Production Engineering /Advanced Diploma in Tool and Die Making.
b) Electrical Engineering Stream: Electrical Power System
c) Electrical and Electronics Engineering Stream: Digital Electronics / Electronics and Communications/ Electronics & Telecommunication / Industrial Electronics / Electronics / Electronics Production & Maintenance /Instrumentation/ Instrumentation & Control Engineering
The candidates of lateral entry should have 50% or more marks in English in any one of the levels i.e. 10th/12th/Diploma/UG, without which they would not be eligible.
All RESULT AWAITED candidates of Degree/Diploma who have less than 50% in English in 10th & 12th, are to ensure that they possess English Subject in their Degree/Diploma for which result is awaited. In case they are not having an ENGLISH subject in their Degree/Diploma and have less than 50% in English in 10th & 12th, they are not eligible.
- In the option SELECT DIPLOMA QULAIFICATION: Kindly refer to the category you belong to. Pls refer to the footnote for the CATEGORY.
- Please use a Desktop / Laptop for filling the online application form.

- Candidates seeking admissions through Lateral entry in B.Tech M.E have to register in the admissions portal.
- Lateral entry scheme - B.Tech (Marine Engineering) 2nd The course is offered at: IMU Chennai, IMU Mumbai Port & IMU Kolkata.

- The crucial date for the application of the Age criterion shall be 01.08.2022
- The last date for Online Registration is 26.05.2022 till 11.59 pm, however candidates are advised to complete the process well in time as the payment clearance takes minimum 2 hrs.
- The generation of OTP for e-mail and phone number validation, sometimes gets delayed due to various congestion reasons. Kindly wait for at-least 15 mins for the OTPs to arrive.

Description:
Category 1 candidates are required to fill 1st year training marks from ATS. Category-2 candidates are required to enter first year marks of the degree course. Category -3, Category – 4 & Category-5 candidates are required to enter only last year marks of diploma.
Pls note that the candidates will not be eligible if:
Category 1 candidates have not passed the first year; however, RESULT AWAITED candidates can apply.
Category 2 candidates have not scored equal to or more than average 60% marks in 1st year from the Engineering College approved by AICTE in other streams like Mechanical or Electrical.
Category 3/4/5 candidates have not scored 55% marks or more in final year of diploma.
Any other UG specialisation other than which does not fall under above mentioned CATEGORIES (CATEGORY 1/2/3/4/5) should be mentioned in UNDER GRADUATE QUALIFICATION. (Any UG qualification falling under any of the Category (Category1/2/3/4/5) should be mentioned in the option SELECT DIPLOMA QUALIFICATION)
- Maximum Marks and Obtained Marks are correctly entered. Please do not convert to percentage as the system will automatically convert the marks in percentage.
- Correct School Board Names are selected for 12th Std. and Std. 10th
- Equivalent Percentage Marks are entered if the Grade Points are shown in the mark-sheet
- Decimals are limited to 2 decimals, without rounding off.
- Year of Passing for 12th Std. is correctly picked.
- Correct NCC Certificate details are filled. Wrong entries and incorrect document will be rejected.
- The subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics if not available to be filled, the fields of other subjects viz subject1, subject2, subject3 & so on may be utilised to complete the registration.
- If you have selected the option of ‘Others’ for any entries, such as School Board Name, clearly enter the details for the same and do not use unknown abbreviations. Before selecting the option of “Others” make sure that your board name is not available in drop-down menu.
- Once the form filling is complete in all aspects, complete the process by clicking Confirm Button at the end.
- Candidates whose results are awaited and not declared can apply using RESULTS AWAITED Such candidates, will have to necessarily fill all the details at a later stage as notified by IMU and upload the mark-sheet. The registration process will be treated as incomplete if during the later stage the mark-sheet is not uploaded and hence will not be taken up for Ranking.
- If 12th Std mark-sheet has both 11th and 12th Std marks (as in the case of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala), only 12th Std marks are to be entered. You should not enter 11th Std. Marks OR Total Marks OR combination of 11th and 12th.
- If any mismatch is noted between the entered marks and the marks shown on the original mark-sheet at any stage, the candidate may not be admitted. Hence, it is important that all entries are thoroughly verified for correctness.
- The screen-shot of provisionally declared results from the board website/ digi-locker marksheets will be accepted for uploading. However, during verification, the candidate is required to carry all originals.
- NCC candidates should not upload irrelevant documents in place of NCC A/B/C certificates. Such candidates may get rejected. Hence such candidates are required to upload the correct certificate. The following are not accepted as valid NCC certificate: Weightage Certificate, Camp attending Certificate, certification from an officer stating that result is awaited, school certificate, any other document other than NCC certificate, any document which indicates engagement in NCC activity but not the certificate, wrong claim certificate (e.g. uploaded A certificate, but claimed B certificate).
- Candidates will be able to download the rank certificate after the results are declared. The date of result declaration and rank certificate download facility will be intimated on website. Please note that the rank certificate download will be available till the time admission process is active. Any request for providing rank certificate later will not be entertained.
- Notwithstanding the fact that a candidate's Online Registration may have been successful, if any inadequacies or discrepancies or false claims are detected in the entries made or documents uploaded at the time of the Online Registration and/or in the original documents produced, if any, subsequently and/or in the Original documents produced at the time of verification, IMU reserves the right to disqualify the candidate from admission.
- Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidates.
- Legal disputes, if any, shall lie within the jurisdiction of Courts based in Chennai city only.
- IMU reserves the right to amend the method of ranking/ dates due to any administrative / unforeseen circumstances.
- Candidates otherwise eligible on basis of 10+2 can register separately by clicking Basic Registration option.
